How to Remove a Parking Brake Assembly
The parking brake is located on the car's center console between the front passenger seat and the driver's seat. When you want to use the brake, you can pull the lever up. The lever is connected to the stick lever, which you can use to disengage or engage the ratchet. The parking brake is operated by pulling up on the adjusting nut. The parking brake can then be released by removing the adjusting nut, lever, and retaining spring.
The parking brake assembly can be removed from the car using the following steps: first, locate the parking brake cable. Loosen the clamps and remove the cover. You can access the rear clamp by removing the trim ring from the defroster vent. Next, disconnect the parking brake cable (86) from the tension shackle located on the parking brake pedal. Then, remove the two bolts attached to the adjustment knob and push the lever inwards.
If you have to disengage the parking brake, you can use a hammer or chisel. Then, a wide bladed screw driver can be used to remove the rotor. Make sure to align the ram shaft and the thumbwheel properly. If the hammer is unable to turn the rotor, you may need to use a wrench or a socket to remove the brake lever.
The parking brake cables are accessed from underneath the car using an access hole at the eleven-o'clock position. If you're working on the left side, you can remove the parking brake cable and install it into the parking brake lever. Then, you can apply high-temperature grease to the adjusting bolt. After that, you need to install the tension spring. Lastly, you can reconnect the cables to the car's power supply.
To do this, turn off the car's ignition and remove the parking brake lever. If it is a ratchet-style brake, remove the nut that holds the lever to the rotor. Then, you can loosen the lever by hand. After doing this, you can attach the cables to the brake lever by removing the detent eccentric bolt. Once the ratchet is in place, you can replace the Parking Disc Assembly.
Afterward, unscrew the parking brake lever and disconnect the cable. Then, turn the parking brake lever counterclockwise and remove the nut. Then, you need to reinstall the cable by loosening the hold-down pin. Now, you need to reinstall the cable and the lever. If it is loosening, the cables can be reinstalled. Once the cables are in the right place, you need to replace the Parking Disc Assembly and the pedal.
The Parking Brake Assembly is a mechanical system that locks the rear wheels into place. It is a safety feature, but you should be cautious about using the parking brake. It can cause a crash if it's not engaged properly. Generally, the Parking Brake Assembly is located between the driver and the passenger's seats. During an emergency, you should disengage the parking brake cable and the rotor.
